PHP Developer / DevOps

We're hiring a PHP developer (Laravel, Silverstripe or other similar framework) with DevOps experience to help maintain and configure cloud servers, Ansible / Puppet deployment scripts on various cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).


This role can be based in our Hertfordshire or London office.


You’ll be heavily involved in internal R&D projects and hackathons that capitalise on developing products for the Internet of things (IoT).

The main responsibilities are as follows:


Server administration

  • Managing our cloud hosting infrastructure (Rackspace, AWS, Azure) and look at implementing a new “Infrastructure as Code” solution in the long-term
  • Maintaining our Puppet and Ansible scripts
  • Monitoring Linux server performance and responding to emergencies
  • Configuring DNS, domain renewals and installing SSL certificates
  • Dealing with backups and disaster recovery simulation (DR)
  • Preferably some experience with implementing security best-practices and running penetration-testing


Web development

  • Maintaining and developing web applications using PHP technologies such as the Laravel, Silverstipe or Drupal frameworks
  • Database design and object-oriented architecture and design patterns
  • Version control and Git
  • Use of Docker / Vagrant and automated testing tools
  • Preferably some HTML/CSS and JavaScript VueJS or Angular skills


Other responsibilities

  • Assisting in the implementation of business wide dashboards reporting on key metrics using a variety of APIs into tools like Slack, Trello, Teamwork and Sentry
  • Attending and developing R&D products within Cyber-Duck’s quack hacks


Experience and skill requirements

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in a similar role
  • 2:1 Degree or equivalent in Information Technology is preferable
